| In 1985, I got together with a fellow officer and came up with an idea
to preserve the brim on the campaign style hat by "pressing"
the brim back into its original shape. As a result of the inherent characteristics
of the material, the brim is subject to warping due to excessive heat,
humidity, moisture or just plain wear and tear of daily use.
The product needed to be simple, practical, effective and durable. The HAT-PAKTM is made of a high-density polyethylene for strength and durability. It is light, approximately 2 pounds, and is easy to use. One size fits all hats and it is washable. The HAT-PAKTM consists of two plates, one on top of the other held together by four knurl knobs. The product opens horizontally; the hat is inserted with the crown side down on the bottom plate, the top plate then slides back over the brim and is tightened in place by the four knurl knobs. The force from the two plates and four knobs maintain even pressure on the brim which restores it to its original shape. The HAT-PAKTM is sold throughout the United States, Canada and the Virgin Islands as well as in EUROPE! It has been purchased by local police, state troopers, military personnel, government personnel such as park police, and yes, even Boy Scouts! The original patent was obtained in 1986.
